Kids say the darndest things!

I always tell myself I will remember the funny things my kids say...but I hope writing them down will help to insure that.

After watching a National Geographic documentary on panda bears, I explained to Ashton that they are endangered, and could become extinct, which is why people must help them. He got a funny look on his face and said, "Mom, so pandas stink?"

Trying to get out of the house to run errands I asked Kadence to put her shoes on. She got on some socks & then asked, "which shoes?" I told her to just throw on her Crocs. She then came back with the Crocs on, but no socks. So I asked her, "What did you do with your socks KD?" and she replied with, "Well, I took them off. I don't wanna look like Papa!!" LOL

After Kadence wouldn't stop throwing a fit over something silly, I asked her to go to her room until she could calm down. She went to her room...for about 15 seconds. Then she came marching out, hands on hips and announced, "Mom, you are my Mom. You can't be mean to me. You are my Mom so you have to love me!" Oh Kadence, Kadence, Kadence. If you only knew little one how much your mommy loves you! It cracked me up & I reassured her that I loved her with a big hug & kiss. What a nut!

Summer 2009 - Gone too soon

What a FUN summer for the Dean family! In June, we journeyed up to Yellowstone for a Christensen family reunion. We saw moose, buffalo, bald eagles AND A BEAR! It was SO great! The kids enjoyed every minute of it. Even the 'stinky pots.' One of the joys of having a toddler: standing at a hot spring listening to the guide talk about the fragile ecosystem & how humans can 'kill' natural hot springs then seeing your 3 year old chuck her GoGurt wrapper up over the rail, out to the hot spring. You have one of those moments where you look around, wanting to see if anyone noticed...and maybe say, "Hey, whose kid is that?!" ha ha ha Ah, memories.

In July, Dustin & I took a much needed 'adults only' getaway to Lake Powell with some great friends. It was so nice to just relax & unwind & reconnect. I'm so grateful to be his companion. We do really well together on couples vacations. We never get 'sick' of being together 24/7. Maybe it's because parenthood has kept us so busy that we treasure those moments of 'just us' a LOT. I enjoyed my 31st birthday at the end of July...with a little surprise shin-dig thrown by my hubby. Thanks to all the good friends who came to share it with me.

In August we flew to San Diego (for freeeee) for a quick trip to Sea World & the beach. Of course Kadence entertained a captive audience with her dance moves as we waited for the dolphin show to start. I have SO much fun vacationing with my kids. I feel like they are at the PERFECT ages. And luckily to have been blessed with tall genetics, they are both tall enough to ride most amusement park rides. The kids even each tried boogie boarding at Mission Beach. Not that I want to brag or anything...but I think I might be the best boogie boarder in this family! I caught some killer waves - and didn't even have a wet suit! One of the best moments of our San Diego trip was timing the Sky Ride over the bay with the Sea World fireworks. They were spectacular! Reflecting perfectly off the glassy surface of Mission Bay. I will cherish that forever!

What a fun, busy, summer that was over much too soon! It all culminated with seeing McKade off on his mission to Santiago Chile at the end of August. I am already looking forward to the summer of 2011 when he returns home. WE LOVE YOU ELDER CHRISTENSEN!
